There are singer-songwriters. There are multi-instrumentalists. There are producers. There are bands. Then there’s MDMP. Led by Jeremey Meyer, the hard-hitting Hawaiian outfit is all of the above. MDMP’s songs — as heard on the monumental debut Day One — pass through multiple hands and lands as they evolve into their final forms. “It’s all about collaboration,” says Meyer. “I don’t know a lot of people who are trying to do a collaborative thing on this level. There are at least 10 people collaborating on the album. A lot of the guitar licks are from a guy in Kazakhstan. Some of the producing was done in Taiwan.” Alt-rock, post-grunge, nu-metal, glam, electro-rock, even reggae-pop and disco — they’re all here. “Some songs have a lot of synths,” Meyer says. “Others are completely traditional rock instruments. Every song is different.” They are united by Meyer’s soaring vocals and devastating lyrics. Whatever the approach, the goal is the same:  “I just want people to think.”
