Uganda hosts 1.5million refugees, making it the third largest refugee-hosting country in the world, with at least 80% of them living below the international poverty line of USD 1.9/day. Over 60% of those refugees are under the age of 18.

Nakivale refugee settlement, approximately 300 km away from Kampala/Uganda, is one of
the oldest settlements in the country at Southwest. It currently hosts over 119,587 refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Somalia, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea (and others).

The poverty, low socioeconomic status, media-influence, sexual abuse/rape and forced marriage, parental neglect or erosion of social values, lack of sex education and lack job opportunities are some of the cause of teenage pregnancies in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government has imposed a harsh lockdown that prevents people from leaving their homes, and hence earn their daily income to buy food and basic services.

The situation looks so highlighted extending up to August. (PLEASE READ FURTHER BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION AND IMAGES ON THE 5 TAILORING MACHINES FOR REFUGEE TEENAGERS MOTHERS” PROJECT) to help teenagers to make 1.200 masks for pregnancies women refugee during and help in the post-Covid19 to generate income.

YAREN the Young Africans Entrepreneurs led by Mushongole Muganuzi, is helping locals and refugees teenagers mothers in their fight against the pandemic by spreading the word about the importance of social distancing and hygiene, including washing hands and masks production.

YAREN has launched ” A TAILORING CENTRE FOR TEENAGERS MOTHERS REFUGEES”, an ambitious project to make masks for contributing on defeating this pandemic and looking to distribute 1.200 to prignacies women refugee to facilitate them on following their health program to stop the spread of COVID-19, masks which will be made from Kitenge washable and which will help the teenagers to generate income

– USD 20 for accessories kit of 1 sewing machine to make 200 masks and facilitate teenagers to get skilled in post-Covid19.

– USD 60 provides 3 machines accessories kit

– USD 140 give 1 sewing machine with 2 accessories kit

– USD 10 buys kitege will provide 75 masks tonserve 75 pregnancies women a full three terms

– USD 70 covers 1.200 masks accessories for the 1.200 pregnancies

-USD 150 will provide 15 Kitenge to make 1.125 masks for pregnancies women

Wee need to raise the full USD 1. 000 within the next thee weeks in order to serve these 1. 200 pregnancies Refugee women and 100 teenagers mothers in the post-Covid19.

The outcome of the Project will be producing 1,200 Masks. Successful stories from teenagers on their lives and their earning, Each pregnant woman usually has 8 healthy appointment program, hope this mask will help her more than three terms accordingly to the health program, hence the Project will reach a total of 1. 200 pregnancies women refugee during the Covid19 and train 100 teenagers mothers in the post-Covid19 for their economic independance.
