Tom Tsai received a Ghost Light Residency at the Warner Grand Theatre in April 2021.

Tom Tsai is a descendent of survivors and victims of Taiwan’s martial law era, and a perpetual student of B-boy/B-girl culture. He is deeply inspired by underrepresented communities who continue to cope with and resist against injustice and erasure. Tom sources from the personal and political to inform his choreography, framing the cultivation of identity as a creative act. He has been privileged to perform his solo works at iconic venues including Judson Church (New York), Sadler’s Wells (London), Rotterdam Schouwburg (Rotterdam), and Esplanade Theatres (Singapore). Tom’s dance and documentary short films are a part of Suchi Branfman’s “Dancing Through Prison Walls” project, which tell stories of resilience through the experiences of those affected by the carceral system, while bringing attention to the prison abolitionist movement. Tom has danced with LA-based choreographers Suchi Branfman, Laurie Cameron, Victoria Marks, and John Pennington.
