BRIAN MCGRATH With over 30 years of teaching, research, and design experience, Brian McGrath has forefronted design as a tool of activism and change in architecture and urbanism – cultivating relationships with grassroots community leaders, scientists, and students worldwide. His work ranges from the Baltimore Ecosystem Study, working with scientists and designers on urban patch dynamics, to tracing the ecologies of Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. His methods include fieldwork, digital technological modeling, cinematography, and architectural tools to engage and unpack socio-ecological resilience in urban disruptions and transformations. McGrath’s research cultivated books and publications which include Urban Design Ecologies Reader (2012), Digital Modeling for Urban Design (2008), Transparent Cities (1994), Resilience in Ecology and Urban Design (2012), Growing Cities in a Shrinking World: The Challenges in India and China (2010), Sensing the 21st Century City (2007), and Cinemetrics: Architectural Drawing Today (2007).
