The Solomon Islands consists of six major islands and over 900 smaller islands in Oceania, to the east of Papua New Guinea and the northwest of Vanuatu. For a very long time, the Solomon Islands did not recognise the Peoples Republic of China. Instead, it recognised Taiwan, which is the Republic of China.
