Continuing on from our previous NZ road trip vlog, in this video we made our way over to Napier which is in the Hawke’s Bay region (and North Island) of New Zealand .

Napier is a popular tourist city here in NZ and it has a unique concentration of 1930s Art Deco architecture especially in its town centre. In fact, Napier is known as the “Art Deco Capital of New Zealand”. Some even claim it to be the “Art Deco Capital of The World”.

We made a couple of stop offs on the way from Cambridge to Napier to soak in some sights, like Waipunga Falls (roughly 1 hour from Napier) and to also stretch our legs from the constant driving. Waipunga was a really cool waterfall to see.

The thing we had on our minds though was where to eat in Napier’s town centre. Since we love Asian food, we found a nice Malaysian restaurant right next to Marine Parade called Faith Hope Love. Thankfully we made it before they closed so we were able to get a good feed and recharge ourselves.

Faith Hope Love Malaysian Eatery
Address: 105 Marine Parade, Napier South, Napier 4110
Hours: Monday 4:30–8:30pm
Tuesday Closed
Wednesday 4:30–8:30pm
Thursday – Friday 12–2:30pm, 4:30–9pm
Saturday 12–3:00pm, 4:30–9pm
Sunday 12–3:00pm, 4:30–8:30pm

After exploring Napier’s town centre and doing a bit of souvenir shopping, we headed off to our Airbnb accommodation. We stayed in a really clean, comfortable and spacious studio on Hospital Hill which had an incredible view of Napier and our host Jill even provided breakfast items as part of her accommodation offering. This was home for us for a couple of nights.

The next morning we went to New Zealand’s oldest winery – Mission Estate Winery. Mission Estate Winery was established in 1851 in Hawke’s Bay and is one of the largest wineries in the region. It’s also wholly New Zealand owned. Friendly staff, great food and a nice laid back ambiance plus Peter did a little wine sampling so we could choose which Hawke’s Bay wine to get as a gift for our parents.

Mission Estate Winery
Address: 198 Church Road, Poraiti, Napier 4112
Hours: Monday – Saturday 9am–5pm
Sunday 10am–4:30pm

This wrapped up our first day visiting Napier but in the next vlog we explore more of Hawke’s Bay. Don’t forget to check out our other vlogs from this NZ road trip if you haven’t already 🙂
